Lidl Ross on Wye

Lidl’s Operation

Lidl commenced trading in the UK in 1994 and currently has over 900 stores trading nationwide.

  • The Lidl retail philosophy is focused on simplicity and maximum efficiency at every stage of the business, from supplier to customer, enabling the company to sell high quality own brand products at the lowest prices;
  • 80% of Lidl’s British fresh produce bears the Red Tractor logo¹, so you can be assured that you are ‘buying British’;
  • A common misconception is that Lidl will have an adverse impact upon existing town centres, but a Competition Commission report confirms that Lidl provides a different retail offer in comparison to the main food retailers or ‘Big 4’, such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s. This has also been acknowledged by the Secretary of State, in recent decisions following public inquiries relating to Lidl schemes. This demonstrates that the different offer provided by discount food stores is widely recognised and accepted.
